Arkansas Swimming morns the loss of Coach John Torbett

Coach, as he was fondly known, will be remembered for his tenure as a swim coach. In 1964 Coach moved to Little Rock and served as the associate director of the Little Rock Boy’s Club until 1969, when was named inaugural head coach of the UALR men’s and women’s swim and dive teams, as well as the men’s water polo team.

Coach spent 15 years as an officer of the Arkansas Association of Amateur Athletics, serving as its president from 1977-1979. His contributions to Arkansas age group and collegiate swimming were recognized by his induction to both the Arkansas Swimming Hall of Fame and the UALR Sports Hall of Fame. Coach retired from UALR as Associate Professor Emeritus in 1994.    Click here for more information

There will be a memorial service Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Hart Moore and Rev. David King. Chunky Apple Oatmeal Pancakes
¾   cup whole wheat flour

1/8    cup oats

2   tablespoons oat bran

½  teaspoon cinnamon

2   teaspoons baking powder

¼  teaspoon salt

¼  cup raisins

½  cup chopped apple

1  cup apple juice

 

DIRECTIONS

Combine dry ingredients.  Add raisins and apple.  Gently stir in juice until dry ingredients are completely moistened.  Pour batterby 1/4 cupfuls onto a nonstick skillet or griddle. Cook until bottom is brown and spatula slips easily underneath.  Turn and brown otherside.  Makes 2 servings of 4 plump pancakes.

 

**Maple Cream - For a tasty and nourishing pancake topping, mix together

equal parts of pure maple syrup and plain yogurt.
